KOSTAS KOUVIDIS

 morning star- miro

I did not know him

We traded no nods nor words

But glimpses and grunts

his punctuation was all stops

split pauses   dashes

semi colons   ellipses  elisions

apostrophes   parenthadids

demi klooks    interrapops

exclamations brief and few

his brushwork was precise

wiped switches  snaffles and snuffs

taut as a whisper in a thicket

light as a cats moustache

glancing tricks in brass

hisses glints

top-tocks settin’ the pace

drive that ride

highlights on the shimmering surface

of music

rolls and shuffles

rimsnaps and drumthumps

deep in the pocketa-pock

on the long slide

hip volumes of space

for bass to build his columns in

piano his arched aquaduct

open sluice for tenor to float through

pushing good air

into this smoky moke

his accidental absence

dyes the silence

another color
